What we publish

We publish articles that explain how Urdu poetry works and where it comes from: the ghazal and the nazm, the history of modern Urdu poetry, the work of individual poets and the links between Urdu and other literatures, including Turkish.

Our aim is to make this tradition easier to approach for readers who are only beginning, without simplifying it into slogans.

How we write

Each article rests on well-documented facts such as publication dates and established biographical points. Where sources disagree, for example on the year of an award, we say so instead of choosing silently.

We do not reproduce poems at length and we do not copy text from other websites.

Independence

Siyahi is not affiliated with any poet, writer, publisher, university, institution or organisation mentioned in its articles, and it does not speak on behalf of any of them. Names appear only for information and discussion.

The site is run as a small editorial project. It presents no offers, services or products.
